Tackling the Smoky Mountains: A Backpacking Adventure!
This was an EPIC backpacking trip in the stunning Smoky Mountains! I was joined by my fearless friends Elizabeth, Joe, and Jerson for a thrilling journey through lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and misty mountain peaks. We hiked the Abrams Creek to Cades Cove Loop located at Smoky Mountains National Park.
For Elizabeth and Joe, this was their very first backpacking experience, and let me tell you - they CRUSHED it! Despite some nerves at the start, they came prepared with all the gear and a can-do attitude. Elizabeth even managed to keep her pack at 20 lbs, while mine weighed in at a whopping 35 lbs!
Our original plan was to spend two nights on the trail, covering about 15-18 miles total. The first day, we hiked a solid 3 miles to our campsite, battling through humidity and even a few WASP stings along the way! (Shoutout to Elizabeth for being a trooper and rocking that cute bandaid!) But hey, that's all part of the backpacking experience, right?
Day two was when the real adventure began. We woke up to a misty morning by the babbling creek, fueling up on tasty camp meals like oatmeal, biscuits & gravy, and even some trail mix-infused mac & cheese! Then we set off to tackle a 10-mile stretch, winding through jungle-like terrain and marveling at the incredible diversity of plants and greenery.
The rain tried to dampen our spirits, but we embraced it as a natural shower and pushed onward! Our reward? A jaw-dropping waterfall that seemed to dance with the raindrops - an absolutely magical sight.
In the end, we decided to cut our trip a little short and finish the loop on day two, camping closer to the car. After 15 miles of hiking, countless laughs, and unforgettable memories, we emerged from the Smoky Mountains tired but TRIUMPHANT!
I'm so proud of Elizabeth and Joe, for taking on this challenge and discovering a love for backpacking after their first time. From the mist-covered mountains to the unexpected wasp encounters, every moment was a part of this incredible journey. I can't wait for our next adventure together!
